Kenya was ranked the World’s Leading Safari Destination 2022 at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Gala Ceremony, 2022 in Muscat, Oman on Saturday night.

The results were announced on Saturday night virtually during the 29th WTA finals with Kenya beating a strong field of competitors including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Kenya emerged top for its tantalising cocktail of epic savannah landscapes, immense herds of wildlife and palm-fringed beaches.

Masai Mara Game Reserve, Samburu National Reserve, Shimba Hills National Reserve, Sweet Waters Game Reserve, and Tsavo National Park were named among the country’s top safari destinations.

The results follow a year-long search for the world’s top travel, tourism and hospitality brands. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public.

At the same time, Kenya safari company, Twiga Tours in Nairobi, scooped two awards at the WTA as World’s Leading Safari Company 2022 and Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award 2022, while, an Outstanding Contribution to the Hospitality Industry award was presented to Nana Gecaga, Chief Executive Officer, Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Global arena

Twiga Safaris beat last year’s winner, Rhino Africa and other nominees in the list including, Africa Uncovered, Go2Africa, Private Safaris, Sabi Sabi and Sun Safaris whom made to the list of finalists.

Twiga Tours has been Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award and Kenya’s Leading Safari Company (2021, 2013) while Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award, Kenya’s Leading Safari Company and Kenya’s Leading Inbound Tour Operator 2020, 2015, 2014 and 2012.

The Kenyan company emerged the best among other world best leading Safari during the 29th anniversary Grand Tour – an annual search for the finest travel and tourism organisations in the world.

Founded in 1980, the firm which prides itself on offering highly personalised African Safari experiences in Kenya and the East Africa region, has stood the test of time, winning prestigious awards in the global arena.
