Kenyans urged to register their SIM cards correctly

Leading telecommunication service providers in the country have urged Kenyans to ensure their Sim cards are registered correctly against their identification cards.

Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom said customers should visit their official outlets to make sure that their lines are registered correctly.

"This exercise is to ensure that all customers mobile numbers are properly registered against correct identification details provided by the owners of the Sim cards," the service providers said in a joint statement.

They added: "Please note it is illegal to have a Sim card that is not registered with the correct documents."

Kenya Information and Communication Act and the Sim Card Registration Regulations Act (2015) require one to ensure their Sim cards are properly registered against one's identification number.
