Kericho set to host Mashujaa Day holiday on Friday

All necessary arrangements have been put in place for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho when the Universal Health Coverage will also be unveiled.

Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo yesterday said the military and entertainment groups had completed their rehearsals and were ready for the event to be presided over by President William Ruto.

This year’s celebrations will be anchored on Universal Health Coverage(UHC), with the theme being ‘Access to Universal Health Care.’

The Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha said preparations were also complete for the unveiling of the UHC and the Community Health Promoters.

“Already 100,000 Community Health Promoters have been trained and issued with kits and smart phones to enable them take data,” the CS said.

CS Nakumicha was on Monday joined by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the launch of the weeklong event.

Yesterday, together with PS Omollo they were at Kapkatet stadium and today, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will also be at Kapkatet Stadium with the Deputy President.

“Alongside the event, we will have a weeklong event showcasing the interventions that the government is undertaking on the healthcare space. Part of that is unveiling the Community Health promoters,” CS Nakhumicha said.

The preparations for the 14th edition of the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kericho County began almost two months ago which involved the upgrading of Kericho Green Stadium, which will host the event.
“We will be celebrating a number of heroes drawn from across the republic We have selected about 150 who will be physically present on behalf of all the heroes,” PS Omollo said.

The facility’s seating capacity to has also been increased to 10,000. The scope of the expansion also included construction of three more Steel Terraces within the open spaces to accommodate more people. According to the PS, who also chairs the National Celebrations Steering Committee, each of the two areas adjoining the main pavilion have been fitted with 1,000 more seats, and another 1,000 created within the terraces. Dr Omollo also said that the stadium has also been supplied with essential utilities, particularly electricity, water and sewerage system.
