Khaemba calls for stringent measures to curb rising cases of Covid-19
Trans Nzoia county governor Patrick Khaemba has called for a step-up of Covid 19 containment measures to curb the rising number of infections in the county which currently stands at 266 infections with 11 deaths.
Speaking to the People daily on Friday in Kitale, the governor attributed the rising curve to communal infections brought about by a relaxation by residents in the observation of the health protocols.
“All the cases in Trans Nzoia are from within. The infections are also high at the Kitale GK prisons where 215 prisoners are quarantined. We will not hesitate to put all prisons under lockdown if the trend keeps rising,” he said.
He raised concern over a move by many residents to backtrack in the observation of the protocols which have seen the number of infections rise.
“We challenge everyone to keep observing the set guidelines to win the war against this virus which has risen. This must be strengthened as schools are set to be opened,” said Governor Khaemba.
He thanked President Uhuru kenyatta for rolling out the first phase of the universal healthcare insurance programme targeting 1 million Kenyans at a cost of Sh 6 billion.
He asked all the striking doctors to return to work and allow for dialogue to end the stalemate.
