Kiambu Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi has declared interest in succeeding Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria in the upcoming polls.

Ngugi who vied for the parliamentary position but lost to Kuria in 2017 will be facing six others.

Today, Ngugi received blessings from the constituency's Kiama Kiama elders at her Gitare village home and Nyakinyua, a group of elderly women who okayed her bid.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ngugi who has been the deputy governor of Kiambu for two years said she was ready to continue with the developments already established by the national government.

"I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for the developments he has made in our constituency including construction of roads. I will continue with this legacy," she said.

She further vowed to deal with perennial illicit brews that have been destroying local youths saying that she will prioritise the creation of job opportunities to avert idleness.

"Many youths have died while many others have been made unproductive by the outlawed substances. That will be one of the areas I will focus on to ensure we secure their tomorrow," she said.

She also revealed that she will continue working as governor James Nyoro's deputy and will conduct her campaigns without resigning.

The deputy governor will be facing among others Njinji Murigi, Francis Kamau Migwi, Rahab Mwaura, Joakim Kiarie Kamere and Kung'u Kibathi.

Before he suffered burn injuries, the incumbent MP Kuria had said he will not be vying for any elective position leaving new entrants to battle for his position in the August 9 polls.
