The Kiambu gubernatorial race is now at a boiling point as contestants go full throttle ahead of the- forthcoming August polls.

Heated campaigns have seen leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto trade jabs in public after a stalemate over who should fly the Kenya Kwanza coalition flag in the contest set for August 9.

Kiambu supremacy battle

Both former governor William Kabogo, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Senator Kimani Wamatangi are embroiled in a standoff over who is politically mightier than the other in their bid to unseat Governor James Nyoro of the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition.

On Thursday evening, June 16, the situation took another twist after Kabogo campaigned against Ruto's deputy Rigathi Gachagua who he now accuses of dictating what should happen during Mt Kenya Hustlers Express events.

Ruto's allies have been leading the rallies in a bid to solidify support for Ruto in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

Kabogo, while speaking in Thika, said Ruto has lost substantial support in Mt Kenya since he settled for Gachagua as running mate.

The Tujibebe party leader revealed that he had opposed Ruto's choice insisting that the second in started losing ground the moment he nominated the Mathira MP as his deputy.

"I had rejected his appointment and since he was declared the deputy, that is when UDA's things started falling apart. That man is a dictator," Kabogo said.

The former governor said he remains the Mt Kenya region spokesperson adding that his only problem with Ruto is speaking the truth.

Kabogo, UDA's Wamatangi and Moses Kuria of Chama Cha Kazi will face off with independent candidates Patrick Wainaina and Nyoro in the race.
