Kiambu innovators set to make Sh32.5 million after State promises to buy 500 beds
Two Kiambu men are set to pocket a cool Sh32.5 million after the State promised to buy 500 locally made hospital beds from them.
The two innovators awed President Uhuru Kenyatta in their expert artisanship who sent his officials to strike a deal with them in his 'Buy Kenya Build Kenya' campaign.
Mungai Gathogo(26) and Joseph Muhinja(35) from Githunguri Kiambu are now the talk of Kiambu after the President's team visited their workshop on Wednesday.
The two use local materials to make the standard hospital beds that are subject to assessment by Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS).
The President's Delivery Unit(PDU) said the State will but the beds under 'Buy Kenya Build Kenya' campaign.
‘‘I have been sent by His Excellency the President to congratulate the young innovators and to confirm the Government’s commitment to supporting local innovations and products by providing a market for our own under the Buy-KenyaBuild-Kenya policy,” PDU Secretary Andrew Wakahiu said.
At a retail price of Sh65,000, the entrepreneurs have already sold one bed to a local client.
With the State's promise to buy 500 beds, the innovators are set to make Sh62.5 million.
