Kiambu plans to open community isolation centres
Plans to open community based Covid-19 isolation and treatment centres across Kiambu are at an advanced stage.
Area governor James Nyoro has said the centres will decongest county health facilities in the event of a spike of the disease.
Nyoro regretted that the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the county increasing rapidly but said that his administration is fully prepared to handle the growing number of patients.
The governor who spoke at the county headquarters when he received Covid-19 Emergency Fund from 15 private institutions said 1,200 of the county's possible 2.5 million people have so far been tested with 398 of them turning positive.
"45 of them have since recovered but unfortunately 18 of them have succumbed to the disease. We have 158 patients who are under home care and are being observed by our community health care volunteers," he told the media at the county headquarters.
Nyoro attributed the increasing number of Covid-19 victims to the county's high population, the opening of the economy, and the presence of foreigners working for international organizations.
He said that the county has a total of 760 fully equipped isolation beds with readily available oxygen and Intensive Care Units (ICUs) adding that he targets to have 1000 of them.
