The management of Palak International Steel Fabrication has refuted claims by residents of Lari in Kiambu that its factory emits hazardous smoke.

It says, on the contrary, the factory located at Mathore on the Nairobi/Nakuru Highways emits smoke which is eco-friendly.

The company was reacting to claims by a section of locals that the factory has become a major contributor to ecosystem degradation and human health issues. According to the facility’s administrator, Patrick Musila, regular emission monitoring is used to measure the levels of industrial waste the factory emits into the atmosphere.

“When setting up the multi-million plant, the directors were well aware that air pollution was a major crisis the world over because it poses serious health and environmental hazard. They hence ensured it met all the international requirements and standards of air pollution management,” he told the media at the company’s Kikuyu offices yesterday.

The administrator said that the stacks are erected at the highest heights that do not constitute any danger to surrounding humans, animals and vegetation lives.
