Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has said he will give a full statement tomorrow regarding the choice of William Ruto's running mate in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Kindiki, who was one of the front runners for the position, thanked Kenyans who wanted him as Ruto's running mate.

"I am eternally grateful to all those who supported & vouched for me to be nominated the UDA & Kenya Kwanza Deputy Presidential Candidate in the Elections scheduled for 9th August 2022.

"Following the decision taken by my Party & Coalition regarding the matter earlier today, I will make my official statement in public tomorrow, 16th May 2022. God bless Kenya and thank you," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Kindiki skips Ruto's event

In an unusual turn of events, Kindiki skipped Ruto’s event that saw Mathira Member of Parliament (MP) Rigathi Gachagua unveiled as the Kenya Kwanza running mate in the August 9 polls.

During the event in Karen, Ruto showered him with praises as being his excellent lawyer who brought a wealth of experience to Kenya Kwanza.

“He brought a lot of commitment, experience, and passion to this contest. In the end, the consensus pointed to an individual who scored the most points in every evaluative parameter,” Ruto said.

The loss of the position to Gachagua has already started attracting criticism among Meru residents who wanted Ruto to go for a man from Mt Kenya East to foster a solution to their longstanding political cold as most of the coveted government positions end up in Mt Kenya West.
