Kinoti wants Cohen widow contempt case dismissed
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has urged the High Court to dismiss an application by the widow of billionaire businessman Tob Cohen Sarah Wairimu seeking to have him jailed for contempt, terming it as an extreme abuse of the court process.
In response to the application, Kinoti through lawyer Donald Kipkorir says Wairimu and her lawyer Philip Murgor are engaging in calculated move to control the investigations and the trial process and to step in his shoes and that of Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The entire application is meant to scandalise me and to undermine the investigation process of the case,” he said adding the application is in contempt of the court process and Wairimu together with Murgor ought to be held in contempt of court.
Publicity stunt
He further adds that Wairimu’s application is not an application in law but a publicity stunt to excite the public with a false and fake alternative narrative of the material circumstances. Kinoti says that the application by Wairimu is a deliberate and contrived scheme by the applicant and her lawyer to prematurely argue her innocence.
Meanwhile, the High Court will this Friday rule on whether the second accused person in the case Peter Karanja will be granted bail or not.
This is after prosecution objected to the application saying that if released on bail, he will interfere with witnesses.
