Kinyua reads riot act to politicians after Kenol chaos
Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua on Thursday directed that all public meetings and processions around the country should be held in compliance with the Public Order Act.
While addressing a press conference at Harambee House, Kinyua said those who will violate the law will be penalised.
"A convener or any person intending to hold meeting shall notify the officer in a commanding station three days to but not 14 days before the procession," he said.
Kinyua said the conveners should be present throughout the meeting or procession and shall assist the police in maintain law and order.
"At all times bind themselves to be peaceful and keep to the designated areas. Any person who wants to attend a meeting shall exercise civic duty and not be in possession of any weapon," he added.
Kinyua said all persons who elect to address any public meeting and procession shall be bound by the legal penalties.
He opined: "All social media users shall be held individually liable for all content on their profiles pursuant to the NCIC Act on prevention of dissemination of undesirable political messages/ social media content."
Kinyua's press briefing comes after fatal chaos rocked Murang'a on Sunday during a church service which Deputy President William Ruto attended.
Two people were died during the Sunday chaos.
