Kirinyaga county’s security team has flagged off 15 vehicles to various stations in the county to enhance safety and service delivery to members of the public.

The vehicles under lease programme will be used by the National Police Service.

Speaking at the flagging off event at Mutitu Police station in Kirinyaga Central while handing over four vehicles to the station, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said it is the duty of the government to provide security to her citizens. “These vehicles will enable movement of the police officers to the places they are required.”

The PS said that in the leasing programme, the provider will fuel and service the vehicles until the four year-term ends. “We got these cars through leasing programme for the next four years and the fuelling and other services done on the vehicles will be done by the provider,” Kibicho added.

He said all citizens have a duty of taking care of vehicles for their own safety. “These are our vehicles and we should take collective responsibility in protecting them. They are being used by the officers to take care of us. Don’t throw stones when you see them around,” Kibicho said.

He also called on the residents of Kirinyaga to be friends with police officers and help them when necessary.
