Police in Mwea Kirinyaga county have arrested two women suspected of spiking a man's drink in a bar and later robbing him of his valuables.

The suspects are said to have drugged the man at a bar in Ngurubani town in Mwea on Friday and later hired a boda boda to take him to a lodging

Mwea-East Police Commander Daniel Kitavi said the two suspects took the man's valuables including ATM cards at the lodging. The suspects were, however, unable to withdraw any cash using the cards.

“They even took his ATM and visited two banks before they were arrested but they were not successful,” said Mwea-East Police Commander Daniel Kitavi.

The victim, a 32-year old man who has since been treated and discharged from hospital has recorded a statement, but asked the police to conceal his name.

Kitavi said the two suspects have been operating in Mwea for a long time where they pick victims from bars. Arresting and charging the suspects has been problematic as many victims do not record statements with the police, he added.

The suspects target male revelers in Kagio, Ngurubani, Mwea and other towns in Kirinyaga.

The police commander asked victims of drugging not to shy away from recording police statements, to ease prosecution of the culprits.
