Kisii records 24 d***hs in three weeks for Covid-19
Twenty four people out of 647 who tested positive for Covid 19 in Kisii County, in the last three weeks have died, the county government disclosed yesterday.
The county Health Minister Sarah Omache said that majority of those who died due to the pandemic, had underlying conditions including diabetes and high blood pressure.
She noted that the county was experiencing an upsurge in the second wave and linked it to the opening up of the economy by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to the People Daily yesterday, Omache said that majority of the infections had occurred after the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at the Gusii stadium on October 20, as the county had only recorded 146 cases before that.
“We have six patients in our isolation centre at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, while 62 are being managed under the home based care,” Omache said.
The official said the home based care program is the best in managing the patients, adding that the majority of Covid-19 patients hail from Kitutu Chache constituency due to its proximity to Kisii town.
Omache appealed to residents with underlying conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure to be cautious as they are more vulnerable and bound to die if they contracted Covid-19.
She said high blood pressure and diabetes were mostly lifestyle diseases apart from a few cases of genetics and challenged residents to embrace healthy lifestyles to avoid the diseases and be vulnerable to the pandemic.
