Kisumu county is in the process of hiring 350 village council members, once their remuneration is harmonised by the administration and the County Assembly.

The village councils are to help in grassroots mobilisation, coordination, strategic development, and monitoring, to handle complaints arising from County services.

Already, governor Anyang Nyong’o’s administration has recruited 70 village administrators.

They are now working in conformity with the County Government Act, 2012, and Kisumu County Village Administrative Act, No. 1 of 2019.

This is after the County Assembly passed laws establishing the village administrative units, defining the parameters of grassroots coordination work.   “This is meant to strengthen governance at the grassroots, as we seek to bring service closer to the people by being as widely consultative as possible,’’ said Nyong’o.
