Police in Kitale have arrested a pastor for holding a church service against the government's regulations to curb the spread of coronavirus disease.

Ben Tali of the Impact Healing Mega Church which is on the Kitale-Eldoret Road was arrested alongside 20 worshippers and taken to the Kitale Police Station.

Trans Nzoia Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Abdullahi Khalifa said the pastor was seized for defying the Public Order Act directing churches and civilians not to congregate.

Other worshippers who had attended the illegal service scampered for their lives after the police raided the church, leaving the pastor and some members who were arrested.

The administrator expressed utter disgust as the pastor had locked himself and the worshippers in the church and closed the gates.

"The church must lead by example and not behave like this," said Khalifa.
