Kitale: Property worth millions of shillings razed in Sunday morning fire

Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after fire razed a building in Kitale town on Sunday morning.

Trans nzoia county police commander Ayub Gitonga Ali confirmed the incident and saying the cause of the inferno had not been established.  

"The cause of the fire which broke  razing down the third floor of Raising  building will be ascertained after our investigators and the Kenya Power and Lighting Company get findings which we will let you know ", Said Gitonga.  

He  urged locals to be more cautious with electricity, especially during this rainy season.

Trans Nzoia County Kenya National Chamber of commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Pradip Shah thanked members of the public for their quick efforts in assisting the Khetia Supermarkets to put off the fire.

The County government fire brigade was accused by locals for failing to act on time in several fire incidents.

A real estate entrepreneur Morgan Mueke of Shaba Realtors said he had lost over ksh. 1.3 million after the fire gutted down his office on the 3rd floor.

A cyber cafe operator on the 2nd floor fainted and was rushed to Cherangany Nursing home after being choked up by the thick smoke at the building.

Hospital ward MCA Eric Wafula urged members of the public to be more careful when handling electrical appliances to avoid causing fires which may lead to loss of lives and property.

" Without Khetia Supermarket fire brigade in this County, it would have been very difficult to handle such emergencies ", Wafula said as he implored upon the  county government to acquire and avail fire extinguishers to business enterprises to help deal with fires when they broke
