Some Kenya National Union of Teachers Union (Knut) officials yesterday sought the intervention of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the woes bedevilling the union.

Knut officials drawn from Nyanza met with Raila to end the stand-off between them and Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Sources said the delegation comprised officials believed to be sympathetic to the embattled Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion.

Key among the issues the officials sought advice and intervention on are those surrounding the frosty relations between the union and TSC.

One of the reasons for growing unease between Knut and TSC has been brought about by the latter’s move to stop remitting union dues in the last two months, with no clear end in sight.

Raila assured union officials that he has been trying to bring all parties to the negotiating table and ensure a harmonious relationship between Knut, TSC and the Ministry of Education.

While committing to continue being engaged on the matter, Raila appealed to KNUT to continue giving priority to dialogue and negotiations before resorting to strikes.

He appealed to the union to end internal wrangles and focus on serving members.
