KNUT urges TSC to send 22 head teachers to Kajiado schools
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Rift Valley branch Secretary-General Elly Korinko has called for quick re-deployment of 22 school head teachers within the Mashuru Sub-County.
Korinko noted that the 22 head teachers who were interdicted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) last year on allegations that they opposed the roll out of the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) had not yet been replaced.
According to the KNUT official, many operations in the schools have stalled with the education of pupils being placed in jeopardy.
He added that the head teachers who had been interdicted were re-instated and transferred to other schools without any replacements done and this has affected the management of the schools.
“It is ridiculous that the TSC interdicted teachers here but did not send replacements. TSC is yet to respond or act on our numerous letters informing them of the dire situation we have here. Twenty two primary school heads interdicted last year because of insubordination were reinstated and transferred to other regions with no replacements being sent to the affected schools,” Korinko said.
The vacuum at the helm of the schools has also caused major delays of development within the affected schools as well as squandering of the school funds, he added.
Korinko called for establishment and expansion of more day secondary schools in the County to ensure that all children who complete KCPE examinations are accommodated.

“It is about time that both the National and County governments join hands and built more secondary schools or extend the current boarding schools in the area to accommodate those who are yet to join boarding schools because of poverty,” he said.
Kajiado County TSC Director Jamal Ali assured the residents of Mashuru Sub -County that the commission was set to post new head teachers in all the affected schools.
“As a commission, we are aware of the situation in that area and already, we have concluded interviews of all head teachers and by the beginning of next week they will be reporting to their work stations since we are still dispatching their appointment letters,” Ali said.
