Koome to be sworn in today as Chief Justice
Justice Martha Koome will today be sworn in as the country’s Chief Justice (CJ) just a day after the National Assembly approved her nomination.
A dispatch from the Judiciary on her assumption into office said Koome will be sworn at state house in a ceremony that will be witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
After the swearing in ceremony, she will then proceed to her new office at the Supreme Court where she will be received by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, Supreme Court judges and the Judiciary Leaders Advisory Council.
On Monday the Judiciary will host an assumption of office ceremony to handover Instruments of Power to her.
“ Justice Koome will take her Oath of Office at State House tomorrow Friday, May, 21, 2021.
Thereafter, CJ Koome will proceed to her new office at the Supreme Court,” reads the statement.
On Wednesday President Uhuru Kenyatta formally appointed her as the country’s new Chief Justice after parliament approved her nomination.
Once she takes over as the country’s CJ, Koome’s first task will be to constitute a bench to hear an appeal case against the decision rendered by the five-judge Bench last week Thursday that declared the constitutional amendment project under the Building Bridges Initiative unconstitutional.
A number of aggrieved parties in the case have already filed their notice of appeal against the BBI judgement.
