Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of Nairobi, says plans underway to resume normalcy
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced power cut across parts of the city occasioned by the recent heavy rainfalls.
In a Friday, May 14 notice, KPLC said its Nairobi West substation was flooded after Nairobi Dam Burst its banks.
“Our Nairobi West substation has been flooded after heavy rainfall last night led to the Nairobi Dam bursting its banks. As a result, our customers in Nairobi West, South C, parts of Langata Road, Mbagathi Way, Dam Estate, Civil Servants Estate, Five Star Estate, Parts of Lower Hill and its environs are off supply,” part of the notice by KPLC read.
However, KPLC was quick to add that restoration work was in progress and operation would soon resume to normalcy.
“We would like to assure affected customers that restoration work is currently in progress and our teams are working round the clock to restore supply as soon as possible,” the notice added.
On Thursday, May 13, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna said the government will assist tens of families who were displaced by the ongoing rains across various parts of the country.
Oguna who was speaking in Naivasha urged families in flood-prone areas of West Pokot, Nyatike, Bundalange, Tana River and parts of Siaya to move to higher grounds since more rains are expected.
“We have embarked on the process of mapping the areas affected by the rains and identifying the projects damaged by the floods,” Oguna said.
This emerged when Oguna and senior government officers moved in to inspect works on a Moi South Lake road in Naivasha which has also been affected by the floods.
