Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has launched the 13th County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Ruiri Rwarera Ward Meru County.

In a statement, Kuria said the launch of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks is in line with the government's Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda.

"In line with our bottom-up economic transformative agenda (BETA), of promoting production and value addition for local products, I have this afternoon launched the 13th County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Ruiri Rwarera Ward Meru County," he stated.

This comes hours after Kuria rejected a plea by Mithika Linturi and Meru leaders to postpone the event due to the bad blood between Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

Kuria however declined the request to postpone the event.

"I have received requests from my colleague Mithika Linturi and the Meru Leadership to postpone due to the prevailing political situation in Meru. With profound respect, I will not postpone. The joblessness and poverty facing our people can not wait for even one hour as we fix our broken politics," he stated.

So far, Kuria has launched County Aggregation and Industrial Parks in Busia, Kakamega, Bumgoma, Trans Nzoia, Migori, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Mombasa, Kajiado, Narok and Laikipia Counties.

Speaking in August during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Nyamira County Aggregation and Industrial Park, President William Ruto said the Parks will unlock the industrial potential of counties across the country.

“This project will create over 50,000 jobs and reduce poverty in this region. This facility will offer cold storage and value addition facilities for bananas, avocado, coffee and vegetables to help farmers maximise their earnings,” Ruto said in August.

The government will spend Ksh4.7 billion in the next financial year (FY 2023/2024) to establish county industrial parks in all counties countrywide.
