Laikipia county govt announces major developments in quest to restore peace in Ol Moran ward

The Laikipia County government, through the office of the Director of communications, announced on Thursday, September 9 the major developments in the fight against banditry attacks in Ol Moran ward.

The county government has committed to ensuring lasting peace in the area, with the county governor Nderiitu Muriithi operating from the affected ward, coordinating activities aimed at restoring peace.

The continued banditry attacks have seen terrified residents flee the Ol Moran ward to safer regions within the county. Nderiitu's administration, with the support of neighbouring counties and the government, has rolled out a raft of measures that will see the victims resettled and provided with foodstuff.

The county head announced that so far, his administration has received foodstuff and building materials donations from Nakuru county government to help in resettling the banditry attack survivors. CS Fred Matiang'i is also expected to provide more support to the survivors in form of food and building materials.

"The County Government of Nakuru has donated foodstuff and building materials to Ol Moran attack survivors. Internal Security CS Fred Matiang'i is expected to provide more support to the survivors in form of foodstuff and building materials," the statement read in part.

The national government, working in cahoots with the county government, will reconstruct all the houses and schools that had been destroyed by the bandits.

The government has rolled out several administrative measures in a bid to fully mitigate and avert the re-occurrence of the attacks in future. It has announced the creation of Kirima district which will comprise of Ngarua, Sipili and Ol Moran divisions. The district headquarters will be located in the hard-hit Ol Moran ward.

"The Government has created a new district comprising Nagum, Sipili and Ol Moran divisions which will be known as Kirima district. Its headquarters will be at Ol Moran," the statement read.

The government will also upgrade Survey, Luoniek and Nagum police posts to police stations.

On its part, the county government will construct a modern police division headquarters at Ol Moran and the three police stations Survey, Luoniek and Nagum.

The construction of Ol Moran police division commenced on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
