Residents of Kairo Village in Mathioya, Muranga County on Thursday morning woke up to a deformed landscape following a landslide caused by a downpour.

A landslide cut off a section of tea farm and deposited the debris to an adjacent land.

No casualties were reported in the incident that happened yesterday evening.

According to the Kenya Meteorological department, more than 140mm of rainfall has been recorded in the area in less than five days.

"More than 140mm of rainfall has been recorded at Kiriaini in just five days from the onset of the short rain season. The expected enhanced rainfall may trigger more mudslides and landslides," said Paul Murage, County Director of Meteorological Murang’a County.

Last year, four people were killed in Murarandia, Kiharu when a landslide swept their house at night.
