The hearing of a hate speech case against Former Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel failed to proceed yesterday.

Case was scheduled for hearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi but it could not proceed because the former legislator was said to be unwell.

His lawyer, Saitabao Kanchori, informed the court that his client is sick and has been given a week’s bed rest by his doctor.

The magistrate directed that the case be mentioned within two weeks for the purpose of confirming whether the accused had recovered.

Lempurkel is accused of making remarks bordering on incitement of communities. He is out on Sh150,000 cash bail pending a hearing and determination of the case.
