Lenolkulal corruption trial to begin in January 2021
Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal’s corruption case has been pushed to January 2021 due to the corona pandemic.
The trial that was expected to proceed yesterday was pushed to January 26, since the court space was not enough to accommodate all the parties.
Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Nzioki adjourned the matter saying that the space in court was not enough to accommodate the parties without breaching the Ministry of health guidelines of five to 19 people per session.
Nzioki noted that the parties in the case are more than 30 and the only available space provided by the Judiciary was being used for the hearing of a graft case against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and two others.
During yesterday’s court proceedings, Lenolkulal and his 10 co-accused persons had to stay outside the court as their lawyers and the Prosecution took directions in the matter.
Nzioki, however, issued an order to Milimani Courts’ Chief Executive Officer to preserve and make available suitable space for the matter during the next hearing dates.
The trial had kicked off earlier in the year but stalled over Covid-19 pandemic.
