Meru Senator Mithika Linturi estranged’s wife Marianne Kitany.

Divorce proceedings between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his estranged wife Marianne Kitany have been adjourned until tomorrow following the death of Linturi's father.

Lawyer Danstan Omari, who represents Kitany, said she was not ready to proceed following the death of her father-in-law.

"I have instructions from her to pass her sincere condolences to her husband Linturi," Omari told the court.

The court heard that she is in the process of going to her home in Meru to be part and parcel of the burial arrangements.

However, Linturi who was in court said he was ready to proceed.

Through his lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu, Linturi said there are many aspects of his life which have been held in abeyance pending outcome of the case.

Muthomi also claimed the death may have been caused by the shock from the acrimonious and public divorce involving his son and Kitany.

"Under Meru customary law, his father has been in a weak state of mind when he learned that a girl crossed boundaries to go build a house for his son and yet he is a member of Njuri Njeke. Its demeaning," stated Muthomi.

The court agreed to adjourn the matter for only one day since Kitany was not in court.

The matter will proceed on Wednesday 4.
