List of new directives CS Fred Matiang’i issued after arriving in conflict – Laikipia
In his quest to restore peace and normalcy in the war-ridden areas of Laikipia county, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i made a visit at Ol Moran earlier today.
During his visit, Matiang'i issued new directives that will see schools resume and security boosted in the area.
Among other action points, the CS announced the creation of a police division at Ol Moran with enough officers to patrol and boost security as well as two additional police stations to be established in the flashpoint zones.
He said more National Police Reservists will be alertly recruited and deployed in disturbed areas and this will see more surveyors deployed to Laikipia to expedite the titling process and recommend action on lapsed leases or those that are about to.
Matiang'i further directed an establishment of a training base for elite police units to enhance police presence and serve as a buffer zone between Laikipia residents and invaders from neighbouring counties.
That the Interior Ministry will engage other relevant ministries and agencies on the ideal management of the Laikipia Conservancy to mitigate its attraction as a conflict hotspot.
He assured residents that schools will be resuming as of Monday, September 13, with tight security and that the government will offer food, water, blankets, mattresses and assist affected families resettle soonest possible by proving iron sheets among others.
