Lobby opposes appointment of new Kemsa boss

The appointment of Terry Ramadhani Kiunge as the new substantive chief executive officer of Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) has been challenged by the High Court. In an application yesterday under a certificate of urgency by lobby group Sheria Mtaani, the court has been asked to bar Ramadhani from assuming office.

The lobby group says the KEMSA Board appointed Ramadhani through a sham process shrouded in secrecy, and devoid of public participation.

It adds that the names of the applicants and the dates of the interviews were not disclosed to the public. Also, Ramadhani served at the agency as director and head of its Human Resource Committee, says the lobby group.

Through lawyer Shadrack Wambui, the lobby says the recruitment process was opaque with no provision for public participation. It alleges that KEMSA is rushing to ensure the new CEO assumes office before the advertised date of July 1.
