Lonyangapuo opens up on why he ditched KANU for new party
West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has said he ditched Kenya African National Union (KANU) for a new party to add flavour and value in the political competition.
Lonyangapuo recently formed Kenya United Party that he will use to defend his seat in the next year's polls.
"When your desires change in a party, you exit and move on. We should not be surprised at all," Lonyangapuo said on Citizen TV on Tuesday.
He said his new party will be fielding candidates in the 2022 general elections.
"We will meet with KANU in the field. However, we are not fielding a presidential candidate, but we are open for coalitions," he said.
He also said ditching KANU did not mean the independence party had failed.
"We will invite presidential candidates who are interested in working with us to tell us their vision for Kenya. If we agree, we will work together," he added.
