Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi was Tuesday morning arrested and taken to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning over alleged assault on the society CEO Mercy Kalondu Wambua.

Havi was picked by the detectives from his private office in Parklands Nairobi for a 10-hour grilling at the DCI offices.

Police said the LSK boss was arrested after he failed to honour summons requiring him to appear before detectives.

Havi has since defended himself, saying the CEO had forced her way into the boardroom while they were having a meeting with the intention of recording the proceedings.

He further said the meeting was scheduled to be held physically and that 12 council members had attended.

However, Wambua maintained she was also to attend the meeting, which was held both physically and virtually but was attacked when she joined them.

“He was there with legitimate council members allied to him as well as a team calling themselves caretaker members. Other legitimate council members joined online,” Wambua said.

Accompanied by her lawyer, Steve Ogolla, Wambua reported the matter at
Muthangari Police Station and it was recorded, Occurrence Book number
34/12/7/2021.

She had claimed that she was injured on the right arm and finger during the scuffle.

The two have had a long running tussle after Havi declared her sacked in October last year.

He claims she was part of the team that had embezzled the society’s
money.

Havi was released on Ksh10, 000 cash bail on Tuesday evening.

The High Court on Wednesday morning, however, issued a conservatory order restraining the State from arresting him.

The matter will be mentioned on September 21.
