The Law Society of Kenya now seeks to withdraw temporary orders that suspended the appointment of Joe Sang (pictured) as acting Managing Director Kenya Pipeline Company.

Appearing before Justice James Rika of Employment and Labour Relations Court, LSK, together with KPC board of directors, Sang, the Attorney General and Energy Cabinet Secretary told the court they are in talks to have the orders dated February 3, this year vacated and pave the way for recruitment of a substantive MD at the parastatal.

Pending issues

The KPC told Labour Relations Judge James Rika that they are yet to reach an agreement as they have some issues pending to be finalised and asked the court not to adopt a draft of the consent filed on February 20, 2023. The court also heard that Public Service Commission (PSC) which is listed as a party in matter was not consulted during the initial talks.

The draft indicates that the interim orders will be vacated “in public interest to pave the way for a competitive recruitment process for the position of managing director”.

It further indicates that the said recruitment process commenced by KPC will be fast-tracked and completed within four months.

The petition will also be fast-tracked and set down for hearing at the court’s earliest convenience.
