A section of elders from the Luhya  community have challenged the government to disband the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for failing to tame politicians spewing inciting  utterances.

The elders who  are part of the larger group that brokered the Mabanga peace accord that helped end hostilities between communities in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia said utterances of some politicians may plunge the country into turmoil .

"NCIC commissioners and staff have been receiving salaries and allowances from the taxpayer coffers for no work done and this time around, we are asking the President to send the whole team packing,’’ said Reverend Wafula Wanyisia, an elder.

The elders claimed that the commission had protected some politicians who have been issuing inflammatory statements in public meetings.

Wanyisia faulted the commission for failing to have politicians arraigned before court , saying the continuous lack of commitment to have the ethics followed is enough reason for it’s disbandment.

Speaking to the press  in Kitale ,the elders mandated the ICT secretary in the office of the Deputy President Maurice Kakai Bisau to follow up implementation of the Mabanga peace accord which they said is a road map that could be used by other communities for sustainable peace.

They said actions of some politicians should not be accepted since they could make the country get a negative reputation internationally.

The elders also expressed concerns over the actions of some politicians during the civic and parliamentary by elections where several people including journalists and Independent electoral and boundaries commission IEBC were hurt and asked for action against the culprits.

“It is unfortunate that politicians can enter a polling station , beat electoral agency officials and even hurl unprintable words without action taken against them. Last year a politician poured water on a senior police officer and to date no action has been taken", an elder Peter Emuria said.

Emuria claimed that the commission had remained silent  as politicians crisscrossed the country issuing insightful statements that could lead to despondency.

NCIC Commissioner Dorcas Kedogo absolved the commission from blame saying the commission had laid down elaborate plans to have all people, politicians included asked to account for their actions .

Speaking on the People Online, Kedogo said the commission had zeroed down to some politicians who will soon be arraigned.

She noted that the rising political temperatures witnessed in the country for some months when politicians roamed the country have contributed to hatred, bigotry and political intolerance and warned that time for such politicians being barred from holding public office had come.

"It is not going to be bread and butter for politicians inciting Kenyans . The Commission will no longer condone anyone irrespective of class to incite the people of this country and tear this nation apart’’, she said.
