Bungoma county government will carry out head count of its staff starting next week.

Governor Ken Lusaka said the exercise will establish the actual number of staff in the devolved unit.

Speaking after releasing a taskforce report on human resource audit, the county chief ordered the Public Service Board to come up with comprehensive record of staff establishment.

“The board should provide comprehensive record of staff establishment which should include staff number they found in office, the number they have recruited during their tenure and related documentation such as letter of intent advertisement and budgetary allocation and avail to my office within a week,”ordered Lusaka.

The order comes after the taskforce found discrepancies in the number of casual workers employed by the last regime. The governor regretted that after the court ordered for employment of 463 casuals, the county went ahead and hired 660 workers.

“The county disrespected the court and hired an additional 197 casual workers,”said Lusaka. The governor also said the county erred in recruitment of village administrators saying some administrators were not qualified, others were hired and never applied while others were either under age or over age.
