A Nigerian-based media company, My Media Africa, that ranks African leaders based on various achievements in leadership has ranked Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua as the best governor in the continent.

Governor Mutua was ranked as the best governor at the second edition of the Africa Illustration Awards 2021.

The award recognizes leaders from 36 African countries that have done well in various categories including sports, arts, community development, agriculture, philanthropy, education, and governance.

Mutua beat Oscar Mabuyane of Premier of Eastern Cape province and Bushy Maape of Premier of North Western Province from South Africa to clinch the award.

The second-term governor made it to the final list of the ward thanks to his impressive work in infrastructure, youth development, healthcare and recreational facilities.

Henry Iwuanyanwu, one of the award curators noted that what impressed him about the governor's work was how he has kept Machakos Town clean.

They noted that Machakos People's Park was clean, beautiful and free for the public.
