Machakos: Panic as man collapses and later pronounced dead
By KNA
Residents of Kariobangi estate in Machakos town were on Friday thrown into panic after a man collapsed while walking and shortly afterwards pronounced dead.
The man who was well known to the estate residents was confirmed dead by the police who later took his body to Machakos Level 5 hospital morgue.
The mysterious death comes in the wake of an increased number of reported positive cases of Covid-19 in the country and in particular Machakos county.
While confirming the mysterious death, Machakos Township Chief Joshua Kimeu cautioned residents against speculating the cause advising them to wait for investigations.
“It’s true the man died this morning and the body taken by police to Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary where a post mortem is being conducted to establish the cause of the sudden death. Once the results are out, and if it’s confirmed he died of corona, I request those who came into contact with him to present themselves for screening,” Mr. Kimeu added.
Noting that several people congregated around the body in total disregard of the safety guidelines issued by the government to combat the virus, Chief Kimeu asked residents to strictly adhere to the safety measures to avoid contracting or spreading the threat.
He said medical health personnel had been alerted and would fumigate the area the body lay as well as his residence as a precautionary measure.
