A family of a 13-year-old schoolgirl is in agony after their daughter was reportedly abducted by a man from their home in Juja Kiambu, County two weeks ago.

The Class 8 pupil at Woodlands Academy went missing from her parents’ Mung’etho village home in Mirima-ini area on August 16, a day after she was reportedly found with a man who worked in a nearby shop.

Her grandmother Monica Waithera said on the material day, they had come back from church when the girl left to buy a cake, but failed to go back.

However, last Wednesday the man who reportedly abducted the minor called her mother Mercy Nyathika to inform her that he was staying with her at his rural home in Cheptais, Bungoma County.

“I reported the matter at Juja Police Station, but so far the man has not been arrested. He has called me several times using different numbers and on Monday I talked to my daughter on the phone and she was crying saying she wants to come back,” Ms Nyathika said.

The mother says she has been spending sleepless nights since the disappearance of her daughter and fears for her safety. She is calling on relevant government agencies to intervene.

Juja sub county police commander Dorothy Migarusha said detectives have been trying to trace the man through his phone calls without success as his regular phone number remained switched off.

“We are in touch with police in Cheptais and all efforts are being made to track him," Migarusha said and added that a case of abduction of a minor had been reported by the parents.

Earlier last month, the girl had gone missing for three days and was later found at the residence of the same man. Her parents said the matter was reported to the area chief, but no action was taken.
