A Nairobi court has allowed police to continue holding a man suspected of collecting information at Sarit Centre, Nairobi with the intention of attacking the mall.

Milimani Senior Principal magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot allowed the anti-terrorism police to detain Osman Noor Abey for 10 days to conclude investigations.

For about a year, Noor is said to have been frequenting Java House and African dishes at Sarit Centre.

The prosecution said Noor has been living in Ainul Qamal Lodge in Eastleigh although he is not in formal employment.

“I have considered the facts and I find that there are compelling reasons to warrant the detention of the suspect for 10 days,” Cheruiyot directed.

Noor was arrested on Wednesday after the Sarit Centre management shared information about him with the police.

No passport

According to the prosecution, the suspect did not have any physical identification documents or passport at the time of arrest.

The prosecution, through Joseph Kiarie, informed the court that Noor also frequents Kuwait where, he claims to be undergoing religious training.

“The respondent (Noor) is being investigated for the offence of collecting of information for the purpose of committing a terrorist act contrary to the law,” said Kiarie.
