Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has called out men who sire kids and leave all responsibilities to mothers.

Speaking while issuing bursaries to needy students in universities, colleges and technical institutes, the Manyatta MP said he had issued bursaries to 53 students raised by single parents - mostly mothers.

"Single parents in most cases are mothers. So if you have children somewhere even if you have a wife make sure that the child does not suffer for lack of school fees," Mukunji said.

The Manyatta MP noted the number of students raised by single parents was very high, pointing a figure at men who abandon their duties and responsibilities.

The first term UDA MP affirmed that he will work tirelessly to ensure all needy students are educated and that no student will be away from school due to lack of school fees.

Mukunji, however, urged parents not to be reluctant in funding their children's education, stressing that bursaries cannot meet all the costs of their children's needs.

Some 1,894 students from tertiary institutions from the constituency were issued with bursaries worth Ksh14 million under the education program dubbed Masomo Bila Stress Program in Manyatta.

Total orphaned students received Ksh10,000, partial orphans Ksh8,000, students from single parentage Ksh7,000, very needy students Ksh6,000 with needy students given Ksh4,000.

Mukunji urged the 13th Parliament to consider amending the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to ensure funds are issued according to population.
