Matatu Owners Association (MOA) yesterday called on Nakuru governor Susan Kihika (pictured) to streamline the transport sector to facilitate growth in the industry.

Led by the group’s chairman Peter Wambugu, they observed that the new governor has her job well cut out and should not allow infiltration of cartels to control the sector.

Wambugu said the governor needs to come up with short-medium and long-term plans for the sector to ensure a win-win for all stakeholders in the once-troubled transport system.

“You should not be rushed into making a decision affecting the sector, this will ensure the process will flow without any problem,” said Wambugu.

He lauded Kihika for her election into office as the third county boss while at the same time throwing his weight behind her regime as she keeps her house in order.

On reports that there were splits in the sector, the chair clarified that the matatu players were one despite there being two organisations whose mandates are well cut out.

“We have the Matatu Owners Association and the Central Rift Matatu Owners Association both serving interests of their members but are one under the leadership of Kihika,” he said.
