Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.
Mithika Linturi Impeachment hearing
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi's impeachment hearing will continue today.
An 11-member House committee set up to investigate the conduct of Linturi started its hearings on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
The committee has 10 days to investigate and table its report to the House, which will either uphold it or reject it.
If MPs find the allegations unsubstantiated, no further proceedings will take place. But if the claims are substantiated, Linturi will be expected to appear before the National Assembly and defend himself.
Linturi is facing charges of gross misconduct, serious breaches of public trust, mismanagement of the resources as well as gross violation of various provisions of the constitution by approving the procurement and distribution of fake fertilizer by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), signing an agency agreement with 51 Capital and Africa Diatomite industries on March 31 2022 for the supply and distribution of GPC diatomaceous whose product was not sold as chemical fertiliser but a soil conditioner.
Ruling on Ksh2M Embakasi South CDF case
The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will on Thursday, May 9 issue a judgment against Peter Mukhanji and Nifrey Musilivi Tero.
They are charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, and willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement.
The charges relate to the misappropriation of Ksh2.2 million CDF funds disbursed to Embakasi South Constituency in the financial year 2013/2014 for the purchase of computers.
Hearing of Ksh2 billion Kenya Pipeline case
The hearing of a case involving Dr Shem Odongo Ochuodho and 3 others continues on Thursday, May 9 at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court. They are charged with conspiracy to defraud.
Allegations relate to irregular debt re-financing of Ksh2 billion by Triple A Capital Ltd to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) management that caused Kenya Pipeline Company to incur losses of over Ksh286 million.
