A Nairobi Member of the County Assembly (MCA) has tabled a motion to compel Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Board to establish rehabilitation centres across the 85 wards.

Tabling the motion yesterday, Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi argued that despite the board collecting more than Sh100 million in revenue, they have never set aside a single coin to rehabilitate drunkards.

“It is worrying that most young people in Nairobi have become alcoholics. Its high time the board uses part of revenue it generates back to the community to establish rehabilitation centres which will also serve as information hubs and referral service for alcoholics,” he said.

“We only see them giving jer- seys and footballs. For heaven sake, who has ever been reha- bilitated by wearing jerseys? We are telling them to set aside some money in supplementary budget to set up the centres,” he added.
