MCA’s storm Supreme Court to reclaim parking space
Members of the Nairobi County Assembly and a section of the staff yesterday stormed Supreme Court to reclaim a parking lot they allege was taken over by the Judiciary.
Led by Nairobi County Assembly speaker Ken Ng’ondi, clerk Edward Gichana, majority leader Peter Imwatok and other leaders marched to the lot which had been closed with a padlock, unlocked it and gained access.
Speaker Ng’ondi speaking shortly after the exercise noted that the parking lot belongs to the Nairobi County Assembly and that going forward members should park their vehicles at the lot.
“This parking lot is a property of the Nairobi County Assembly in line with the Constitution and the Laws of the land. From now henceforth the members will be using this parking lot,” Ng’ondi stated.
He said that the Judiciary had earlier requested the parking space during the interviews for the position of Chief Justice, which was to give an amicable environment to the Judiciary.
Office of the clerk
“The purpose of this letter is to kindly request the office of the Clerk to request condoning the first row of the parking area adjacent to the Supreme Court from end to end from April 12th, 2021, to April 30th 2021,” the Speaker read the letter that was addressed to the Office of the Clerk by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services, written by the Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi.
