Meru: Form one student hits and kill KCPE candidate after feud

A Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination(KCPE) candidate was hit and killed by a form one student following a brief confrontation at Antubetoe Kiongo in Igembe North .

Elius Munene is said to have lost his life after sitting for his Monday papers when a fight between him and another boy turned tragic .

According to a reliable source, the suspect who is still at large, hit Munene with a stone after the two disagreed on exam performance.

"They were playing yesterday evening when they disagreed on exam performance and they hurled insults to each other when the suspect picked a stone and hit the candidate on the head, " said an eye witness who sought anonymity

The incident however has thrown Luciuti Primary School in grief as the pupil is said to be among those expected to have done well in this year's KCPE.

The Director of Education Meru county Milton Nzioki said the case has has been reported to the authorities and investigations are underway .

He said deceased, aged 20, was allegedly playing with the suspect before the tragic incident occurred .

Nzioka, however, urged all the candidate to focus on examination and shun away from crime activities during this period.

"It unfortunate we have lost a student over a criminal activity. We are pleading with all parents to offer moral support, guidance and counselling to their children especially candidates," he added.

Confirming the incidence, Igembe North Deputy County Commissioner Harrison Ndwili said the KCPE candidate was playing football with a form one student on Monday before a disagreement ensued between them.

Mr. Ndwili added that the form one student fled after committing the offence. He said the police have launched manhunt for the culprit who will be charged at a Juvenile court once arrested .

“He was rushed to Nyambene Hospital where he was later confirmed dead,” the DCC said
