Midweek madness!

When Football Kenya Federation announced last week that it would engage foreign referees to officiate Mashemeji Derby pitting Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards as well as other decisive fixtures, it did not take into consideration matches involving the so-called small clubs.

Already, partial rulings seem to be creeping into the BetKing Premier League early in the season as witnessed a fortnight ago during the match between newly promoted Bidco United and 13-time champions AFC Leopards in Kasarani.

During the match in which Ingwe’s sensational striker Elvis Rupia struck a brace, Bidco were denied what appeared to be a genuine penalty after their striker Stephen Waruru was upended inside the box with the referee waving play on.

So why should the law of foreign whistlers only apply in matches between K’ogalo and Ingwe and not to other clubs like Bidco who want to impress in their maiden appearance in the top flight league?

Bidco, who felt they were victims of injustice on the evening, will be hoping that fairness prevails when they take on Nzoia Sugar at Utalii grounds in one of the four fixtures today before the league takes a Christmas break tomorrow after the match pitting Posta Rangers against Bandari in Kasarani.

In the meantime, Bandari will be angling to put behind them the disappointment of a 2-1 defeat by KCB at home when they take on Rangers in a match that will be beamed live on local TV.

Against KCB, the Dockers heaved and puffed in search of goals and might find Rangers an equally hard nut to crack especially after the Mailmen boldly held Nzoia Sugar to a one-all draw at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma last weekend.

At Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Ulinzi Stars know too well that they owe their fans an improved show when they take the battle to visiting Kakamega Homeboyz.

Ulinzi are yet to win a match and this is a spell they would wish to cast away in Nakuru where they enjoy partisan support.

In the meantime, Kariobangi Sharks are expected to be hugely inspired by a 2-1 victory over Sofapaka during their game against Western Stima at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
