A Migori businessman has been arrested in connection with the death of his wife in August last year.

The trader has been on the run for seven months.

Mystery deepened in the death of Quinter Aoko Abito in Nyatike with reports indicating that about Sh6 million was withdrawn from her bank account long after she passed away.

According to the detectives, Yusto Otieno Seth (pictured) is believed to have murdered his wife on August 10 over a disagreement about money before escaping to Morogoro in Tanzania.

“The children had asked him where their mother was and he told them he was not aware and was waiting for her to come back home. It was later established that he had killed the wife and locked the body in one of the rooms,” police said.

Police said the suspect kept the body in the house for two days and sent his children to go visit the grandmother in Osiengo, Suna East Sub-county, so that he could dispose it of.

However, one of his sons, Franklin, 15, became suspicious and informed the grandmother that his mother had been missing and they were not getting satisfactory answers from their father.

The maternal grandmother, Caren Awino Abito, also became suspicious and travelled to her daughter’s home.

“On August 10 in the evening, the man took all his children to their grandmother. The son sensed something unusual and informed his grandmother. The following day, August 11, they came back but found the door locked, prompting them to report to the police,” police added.

They found the door locked and reported the matter at Kowino police patrol base. Later, a senior officer ordered the door to be broken and the lifeless body of the woman was found on the floor.

“The Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer ordered the door to be forcibly opened and the deceased’s body was found lying in the corridor of the bedroom. Some exhibits were recovered from the house and the body was photographed and documented,” police report read.
