A Nakuru court has allowed the detention of a military officer arrested in connection with the murder of his 26-year-old wife in Lanet.
Resident Magistrate Benjamin Limo granted the police four days to hold Kennedy Otieno Oloo to complete investigations in the matter.
Noting that the offence is serious, Limo directed the matter be mentioned on June 22 for more directions and taking of plea with the accused to be detained at Bahati Police Station.
“The police are granted four days and the suspect is to remain in custody until investigations are complete, the matter will be mentioned on June 22 for directions,” ruled Limo.
Corporal Kennedy Mwachi, who is also an investigating officer in the matter through a sworn affidavit presented by the prosecution, had informed the court that investigations were yet to be completed.
Murder charges
Mwachi said they had limited time to complete investigations since the suspect was apprehended and arraigned in court as per the 24-hour rule intimating they are also seeking to have phone records.
“The mental report of the accused is not ready and we need more time to complete a few investigations into the matter before he can face murder charges,” read part of the affidavit.
Kennedy Otieno Oloo a Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer is the prime suspect in the murder of his wife Leah Otieno at their home in Lanet, within Bahati, Nakuru County.
According to police, the suspect who is based at the 81 Tank Battalion in Nakuru had obtained an Occurrence Book number at the Lanet Police Station on June 12 claiming the wife had committed suicide.
Oloo is said to have informed his seniors of the matter where they duly notified the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bahati since the matter involved a civilian.
The body was moved to the Evans Sunrise Hospital by the Military Police before the DCI officers took it to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital for a postmortem.
