The ministries of Education and ICT are now ready to select the first batch of public schools where coding content will be introduced as part of a pilot project.

ICT Authority acting chief executive Kiprono Ronoh said the selection of schools will be done through the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) technical implementing committee.

Dr Ronoh said the move will play a key role in the content deployment of DLP through which the government has distributed more than 1.2 million laptops for learners across the country.

“We have already distributed more than 1.2 million laptops for learners in public schools and connected electricity and teacher devices to more than 22,000 schools. Now that the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has approved content that can be used with this infrastructure, we will select schools where we will pilot this curriculum support content in the country,” he said.

He made the remarks yesterday in Nairobi, when ICT Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with education technologies firm Kodris Africa, which will see the recently approved coding curriculum implemented in schools where ICT Authority is implementing DLP.

Kodris Africa CEO Mugumo Munene said the coding content approved by KICD will go a long way in complementing the infrastructure rolled out by the ICT Authority in public schools.
