The body of a man, who went missing on Tuesday, was found in a borehole, a stone’s throw away from his homestead.

Geoffrey Wainaina, 52, a father of four, is said to have left home in Kamaguta village, Kiharu constituency, Murang’a county on Tuesday evening for the local shopping centre where he was seen having a drink.

According to his brother Elias Mburu, Wainaina was also seen in the company of a friend at around 8pm, but he never reached home.

“Since he is always home by 10pm, his wife, Marion, wondered what might have happened as he had not arrived. His phone was not being answered either.

The following morning, family and friends mounted a search party in vain,” he said.

Dumped in borehole

At around 7pm on Wednesday, reports reached the family that his mobile phone had been found at a nearby homestead, where friends and relatives rushed to look for him.

“He was located immersed in a well with only less than half inch of the head above the water,” said Mburu.

Police officers from Kahuro Police Station were called in to retrieve the body, which had visible injuries on the forehead dripping with blood.

Body was moved to Muriranjas Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.

County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua, yesterday confirmed the incident, saying investigations had been launched into the matter.

“The last time the deceased was seen alive he was drunk. We now want to know whether he was thrown into the borehole or it was an accident,” he said on phone.
